Scott J. Beattie
Clients come to Peddicord Wharton because they want to win. And Scott Beattie knows how to win. In fact, Scott routinely wins difficult cases deemed "unwinnable" by others. How? By meticulously crafting his arguments, collaborating with his coworkers and presenting the case in a creative and memorable manner. All traits he's been honing for more than 24 years as a litigator.
Starting his career as an officer in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps, Scott was selected by the Bar Association for the City of New York as the Navy and Marine Corps' top young litigator. Scott went on to serve in combat operations in Somalia and Bosnia and as an Associate Professor of Ethics and Law at the United States Naval Academy.
Upon returning to Iowa, Scott served as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Des Moines, defending the City and Police Officers in several high profile cases in both state and federal courts. In 2003, Scott transitioned to private practice with Peddicord Wharton where he has litigated jury trials across the state and has been recognized by his peers for his advocacy skill by his selection as a Fellow in the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers. Scott specializes in civil litigation, including personal injury, professional malpractice, employment, civil rights and product liability matters.
On a Personal Note
Scott currently serves on the board of Altoona Campus and is a past board member of Joppa Homeless Outreach and Bethany Christian Services. He has been an elder in his church, and has been a member of the Serve Team, WGO, Tegucigalpa, Honduras. When he's not volunteering his time, you can find him with his wife, Jerilynn, and three sons, or pushing himself to the limits on a bike trail. He's an avid cyclist who's always up for a ride. With his sons, he created and serves on the board for non-profit, Cross Country across Borders, which collects athletic shoes for distribution to third world countries.
